(Gong) Qi Zhaoxi:
- Less than 30 years old (true age will be revealed around Chapter 30+)
- Some readers call him 老戚 ('old Qi')...
- Famous swordman who recently came out of hiding but already wants to retire
- Secretly a disciple of an infamous demonic sect
- His sect doesn't know he's Qi Zhaoxi, and people who know the hero Qi Zhaoxi don't know his sect
- Just a chill guy who's strong and skilled, but really jaded, really tired, and really wants to retire
- Much of this resignation stems from his painful past
- His character song is Nakajima Mika's 僕が死のうと思った (source: author notes, chapter 0)
- Can come across as lazy and uncaring, but gradually gets more protective + doting as the story progresses
- Green flag gong. Not at all a pedo. (a few of the JJWXC comments were baseless)
- ♡ that being said, he's the main contributor of whatever mild spiciness this story has, and likes to toe the line between private and public displays of affection (provided the other isn't vehemently against it / not able to take it in that moment); also tends to want to attack Jiang Li's neck first when they kiss ♡
- Overall, a very sweet gong :')(Shou) Jiang Li:
- True age is a spoiler but he looks 17-18
- Some readers call him 小江 ('little Jiang')...
- Extremely pure and innocent, but more honest with his desires than one might expect
- Very dandere, very calm, very cool, also very sweet
- But also very resilient, and extremely stubborn in the way he expresses his kindness and loyalty
- Small but strong (emotionally and physically)
- His hair is turning white...(maybe not hard to guess why if you're familiar with cultivation novels)
- Overall, a very sweet shou :')

The story

  • The story centres around the perils of mankind's obsession with immortality, and the unraveling of secrets behind the sects of the Jianghu

  • It starts with a sword tournament organised by some rich merchant

  • There, Qi Zhaoxi (gong) meets Jiang Li (shou), and although their first meeting leaves Qi Zhaoxi hanging, he sees the other on the stage in a perilous situation, and saves him from severe injury

  • It's a win-win stuation, because this allows him to quickly make Jiang Li his fake disciple, and thus prevent himself from being pressured into taking a real disciple

  • The plot progresses quickly once a certain demonic sect launches an attack at the venue of the sword tournament

  • Chaos quickly ensues; at the same time, the romance blossoms as if there is no tomorrow...puns intended

  • Minor (and at least one semi-major) character deaths

  • 96 chapters and 4 extras

  • Comedic undertone; funny/cute/sweet scenes scattered amidst a considerable amount of plot-related angst (not a lot of relationship angst for the main CP, quite a lot of relationship angst for the side CP)

  • No MC/ML specification ('co-MC' in a way, especially with mutual salvation being the central theme)

- Undergoes memory loss and earth-shattering physical pain on a regular basis, for reasons that are a spoiler (click only if you want to find out: he's a human Gu)
- Literally toxic, but there's more to him than first meets the eye
- A wonderful elder brother to a very sweet girl (he even does her hair for her...)
- Definitely also deserves the world (+ Shen Zhiyan)...The CP
- Pain
- This side CP has sometimes been as well-loved / even more well-loved than the main CP, with the only caveat being to love them with caution...
- Good pain (subjective)
